Priestley’s Gourmet Delights – Acacia Ridge Warehouse: 720kW Solar Power Installation

Project Overview:

Gardel Electrical & Solar was contracted by repeat client James Anthony Construction to design and install a comprehensive solar PV system for Priestley’s Gourmet Delights‘ new 7,500m2 warehouse in Acacia Ridge, Brisbane.

Project Challenges:

  • Ongoing construction: Due to the ongoing installation of rooftop equipment, Gardel Electrical & Solar required a solution that seamlessly integrated with the complicated roof design, the construction schedule and minimised disruption to other trades.
  • Increased electrical load: As per Brisbane City Council approvals, Priestley’s transition from gas ovens to electric significantly increased the facility’s load by 3200 amps, making solar energy critical for cost-efficiency.
  • Project scale and complexity: The project’s large size and involvement of multiple contractors necessitated a renewable energy partner with extensive experience in collaborating with complex construction teams.

Gardel Electrical & Solar’s Solution:

  • Custom design & flexibility: Our in-house design team initially developed a 500kW system using Astronergy panels and Sungrow inverters. With additional rooftop space becoming available during construction, the designers and engineers expertly scaled the system to 720kW, maximising Priestley’s energy savings and return on investment.
  • Streamlined communication: The in-house integrated on-site and design teams ensured seamless communication and swift adjustments to accommodate the system’s expansion.
  • Sustainability & efficiency: The upgraded 720kW system, consisting of 1,540 Astronergy 475W panels and 5 Sungrow 110kW inverters, is projected to generate a significant 1,100,000kWh of clean energy annually.

Project Benefits:

  • Reduced carbon footprint: Since its February 2024 activation, the system has generated over 226 MWh of electricity, preventing an estimated 94,000 kilograms of CO2 emissions – equivalent to taking 22 petrol cars off the road for a year.
  • High self-consumption rate: The system currently boasts an impressive 93.25% self-consumption rate, maximising energy usage within the facility and minimising reliance on the grid.

Gardel Electrical & Solar is proud to have partnered with Priestley’s Gourmet Delights and James Anthony Construction on this successful project. This large-scale solar installation demonstrates our commitment to delivering customised solutions that optimise energy efficiency and sustainability for commercial clients.
