Dirranbandi Hospital: Sustainable Energy Solution with 39.6kW Solar PV System

Project Overview:

Gardel Electrical & Solar was contracted by Darling Downs Health in November 2021 to design and install a bespoke solar PV system for Dirranbandi Hospital, located on the border of the New South Wales and Queensland border.

Project Goals:

• Reduced energy consumption: Minimise the hospital’s reliance on the grid and lower electricity costs.
• Enhanced sustainability: Contribute to Dirranbandi Hospital’s environmental responsibility by generating clean, renewable energy.

The Approach:

• Collaborative design: Gardel Electrical & Solar’s team closely evaluated Dirranbandi Hospital’s energy needs to develop a custom-tailored 39.6kW solar system.
• Maximised efficiency: Our experienced solar designers strategically positioned the system for optimal sunlight exposure, ensuring maximum energy production.
• Meticulous installation: CEC-accredited installers meticulously installed the system, complying with all relevant Australian standards. Due to the nature of the hospital, minimal disruption was required to ensure the comfort of staff and patients. 
• High-quality products: The system utilises top-tier components, including 88 Canadian Solar Photovoltaic Module CS3W-450MS panels, a 30kW SolarEdge Inverter SE30K, 44 SolarEdge optimisers P-950, and Clenergy racking specifically chosen for the roof profile.

Project Outcomes:

• Significant energy generation: The system consistently produces over 6 MWh of clean energy per month, making a substantial contribution to the hospital’s energy needs.
• Reduced carbon footprint: Since its installation in November 2021, the system has generated over 35 MWh (equivalent to 40,000 kWh) of clean energy, preventing an estimated 18,300 kilograms of CO2 emissions.
• Financial savings: The system currently offsets over 30% of the hospital’s annual energy consumption, resulting in significant cost savings on electricity bills.
• High self-consumption rate: The system boasts a remarkable 98% self-consumption rate, maximising energy use within the facility and minimising reliance on the grid.
