Which solar inverter should you pick for your system?

A Solar Inverter is one of the most important parts of any solar PV system. When it comes to selecting an Inverter for your System, there is no “one-size fits all” approach. There are three main types of Inverters: String Inverters (or Central Inverters), Micro-Inverters, DC Power Optimisers. Give this video a watch to find out the benefits and drawbacks of each Inverter type. This will help you make a decision that suits your needs and budget, to ensure you get the most out of your future Solar System.

What size solar system should you buy?

In today’s Myth Buster blog, we’re busting the myth that you shouldn’t go bigger than a 5kW inverter with a single-phase property. We talk you through how to pick a solar system for your single-phase property and what to do if your household uses a lot of energy. Solar panels are a long-term investment and can really help you save money and reduce your energy bills. But, knowing which system size to invest in for your house can be challenging. Especially if your household consumes more energy than most.

Why solar panels don’t need to face north

Should you face your Solar Panels North? There’s a misconception that if you don’t have North facing areas on your roof, then you can’t or shouldn’t get Solar. Setting a Solar Panel North towards the sun’s rays will generate the greatest amount of electricity. However, it’s not always practical to face a panel exactly North. Perhaps your roof doesn’t have enough space in a North facing position to fit the panels, or maybe you’re only home at certain hours of the day. Because the sun moves in the sky throughout the day, it’s important to position each panel so it produces the most electricity when you need it. If you are not at home in the middle of the day it would be advantageous to produce less overall electricity by facing the panels west or east. This can allow you to spread the generation between the morning and the afternoon, to match when you use electricity.

How does a solar PV inverter work?

Picture this: You’ve arrived at a remote campsite with your tent, sleeping bag, and a ration of tinned food, but without a tin opener! Food right in front of you, yet so far away. Installing a PV system without an inverter leaves you with pretty much the same conundrum: lots of energy output from your panels, but you can’t use it in your home or place of work.

How Does Temperature Affect Solar Panels?:

In this blog our team will be busting the myth that hotter temperatures increase the amount of energy produced by solar panels. Even though a solar PV system does produce the most energy in hotter months like December and January, this isn’t because of temperature. In fact, excessive heat actually reduces the amount of power a system can produce. As a basic rule, the power and energy produced by panels begin to decrease once the cell temperature of the panels goes above 25°C (based on standard test conditions).

What are Solar Panel’s Tilt Angle and Azimuth?

Did you know that the tilt angle and azimuth of your solar panels can have a big impact on energy output and your electricity bills? Understanding how this works can help to maximise your energy production. There are two elements to the orientation of a panel that have the most impact on this: Azimuth & Tilt angle. As a homeowner, you may not have much control over the orientation of the panels on your property. However, this blog will help you get a basic understanding of how it all works. That way you’ll be able to spot a bad solar design or layout, that could cost you in the long run.
